Melon Basket
- 1 large watermelon
- 1 cantelope
- 1 honeydew melon
Using a pencil, find the center of the watermelon. Outline your cutting lines, as shown in image. Of course, this applies to both sides. Cut out sections you have outlined and set aside. (This will be used later!) Carefuly empty remaining melon using a melon baller. Place melon balls in a large bowl and set aside. Carve out small triangles all along the middle edges of the melon rind. Be creative! You can design waves, diagonal grooves like wicker, or anything else that comes to mind! Round off your basket's handle. At this point, you can use ribbons to wrap around the handle, or anything else you find appealing. Going back to the retained parts of the watermelon, slice it directly down the middle, as shown. You should have four quarter slabs of melon. Each quarter slab now needs to be sliced into triangles, about one inch in thickness. The last remaining piece can be salvaged for a melon ball. Set these pieces aside for now. Now cut your cantelope and honeydews open and make melon balls from them. Place all pieces of melon into the bowl and chill for at least one hour. Be sure you wrap your basket in plastic wrap! Finally! Mix up your melon balls and arrange them in the basket. Line up the watermelon wedges around the basket and ta-da! You have the perfect centerpiece!
